Abstract
In our study, the prevalence of workplace violence (bullying, sexual harassment, or physical violence) in the last 12 months and related factors were evaluated among Korean wage workers using the 4th Korea Work Condition Survey Data (age¡Ã19, n=33,654). The prevalence of workplace violence was 0.68% among men and 0.73% among women for the aged (¡Ã55), and 0.79 among men and 1.06% for women for the non-aged (19~54). The prevalence of bullying was lower among the more educated (¡Ãcollege vs. high school, OR=0.32). The prevalence of sexual harassment was higher among women, especially non-aged women (vs. non-aged men; 8.08), sales workers (vs. office workers; 2.01), and those with higher frequency of customer meetings (Ptrend=0.001). The prevalence of physical violence was lower among non-aged women (vs. non-aged men; 0.45) and those with higher supervisor support (Ptrend=0.02). And it was higher among service workers (12.3), agriculture/forestry/fishery workers (9.00), mechanic/electricians (6.73), and senior engineers (3.98) compared to office workers, and among shift workers (3.70), and those with higher frequency of customer meetings (Ptrend=£¼0.0001). Our results suggest that the prevalence of workplace violence varies remarkably according to sex and age group and are related with education, occupation, shift work and extent of supervisor support and customer meetings.
